Nest Protect not testing alarm/siren

I have just installed two Nest Protects.  When I run the Checkup neither alarm (i.e. the "siren") makes any noise.  Any thoughts?

Hello JoeyD168,

Thank you so much for posting in this community. I’m sorry to know that your Nest Protect is not sounding when you run the Safety Checkup test. Don’t worry; I’m here to assist you.

There are two ways to run this test, so please consider these recommendations to ensure your device functions correctly.

  • If the Safety Checkup failed to start, there might be connection trouble between your phone or tablet and your Nest Protect. Try moving closer to the Nest Protect, ensuring Bluetooth is turned on for your phone or tablet, and verifying that the Nest Protect is connected to Wi-Fi.

  • If the Nest app's Safety Checkup failed to start, you can manually test your Nest Protects. Press the Nest button on any of your devices. You'll hear, "Ready in the (room name). Press to test." Press the button again to start the Safety Checkup.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel

Many thanks for your response!  I can manually test the products (per your second recommendation) but not via the app.  The fact that the app doesn't work concerns me.  It also concerns me that the Nest support fellow whom i had on the line while i was trying to address the issue couldn't resolve it (he tried very hard, albeit unsuccessfully).  There was one occasion where i was able to test it through the app but i cannot today.  It does not give me confidence in the system.

Hey JoeyD168,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. I appreciate that you have followed the steps provided in this thread. To get your devices working smoothly, let's explore more options.

  • Ensure the Nest app is up to date.

  • Create another home structure and add the devices in this new structure.

  • Try to perform a factory reset and pair your Nest Protects again.

  1. Hold down the button of this device for about 10 seconds.

  2. Your Protect will start a verbal countdown and tell you it’s erasing all settings.

  3. After a few seconds, your Protect will reset to its factory default settings.

  4. Then you can go set up your devices again.

Please let me know if these steps are helpful.

Best regards,

Daniel
