Nest Protect setup connection issue

I have been unsuccessful adding my nest protect device back into the nest app.  Currently have two thermostats and 4 cameras running with no issues. But when I try to add nest protect they only want to connect to one specific nest IQ camera and I keep getting an error.  I beyond frustrated and have removed this camera from app and added back to see if it resolved issue and it has not.

I understand it can be frustrating if you can't add your Nest Protect to the account. Let's walk through some steps to get your smoke detector reconnected quickly.


An error code 024 typically indicates that the Nest Protect is having trouble communicating with another device on your network, such as your phone or IQ camera. Here are some troubleshooting steps:

 

  • Close and restart the Nest app and your phone.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is on in your phone.
  • Verify that the Nest Protect's status light is blue during pairing.
  • Restart your router.

 

If you suspect your IQ camera doesn't allow your Nest Protect to connect. Try creating a new home within the Nest app and see if you can add the Nest Protect to a home structure with no other devices.

I have created another home and was able to add my nest protect in less than 3 min. So what why is this app preventing me from just installing in to my home that already has 10+ nest products.  This is very frustrating especially when it could just let me connect wifi manually instead of trying to get that info from another product.

Since you were successful setting up the Nest Protect, here are the next steps:

 

  • Remove the Nest Protect from the New home structure and follow this article to factory reset your Nest protect.
  • Try adding the Nest Protect back to the original home.
  • If the Nest Protect attempts to connect to your camera during setup and isn't able to, try removing your camera from the Nest app.
  • Before adding your camera back, try the setup once again.
