Hi Community, our Nest Protects regular make a little beep every day. It's infuriating. It might be, checking the logs, the battery test. Certainly in app all tests are running and no issues are reported so I assume it is this.
But why would every battery test beep? Also I don't think they used to do this.
I have four of the darn things in the house and I am starting to regret that. Is there anyway to diagnose this or stop it?
To recap, I have been through the app notifications. They all say everything is fine.
These are wired in but still have AA batteries in them (I don't know why.. in case the power goes off??).
Any help before this drives us totally loopy would be gratefully received.

This should help (see the when protect needs your attention section):

Hi David. Thank you for responding, but it does not help. I have checked all messages and;
*no messages of issues in nest app log
*last battery checks on device monitoring summary are all "ok" and green ticks
*there is no yellow light. Only the "power" single solid green light.
Can you advise please?
It seema clear there is an issue when it beeps every day but all the logs say there is not issue right?

Even though the battery test shows OK, have you tried replacing the batteries?
Replace Nest Protect's batteries - Google Nest Help
Both battery and wired Protect require Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries.

Hey David. OK, so I hear you, but this seems a rather enormous design flaw. Are you saying that the battery check, available through the app, which tells you when the latest test was - and shows success - has a major bug and doesn't detect batteries that lose charge??
I mean, I can replace them and ensure they are Energiser Ultimate Litium; but it'd a pretty expensive bit of kit to not even have a working battery test isn't it.
Can the software be remotely updated to fix the battery check maybe?
NB: the noise happens randomly and never seems to be as I walk past so I am not even 100% sure which one it is. Making it all the more annoying that I can't use the diagnostics to check. Hence I am really trying to find a solution where it is possible to get a clearer indication of what the issue definitely is.

Hi Daniel. OK I shall try this. To confirm, are there instructions anywhere for specific process on how to best remove/reset/reconnect a device?

Hello Doonan79,
Thank you so much for keeping me updated.
Check out this article: Reset Nest Protect and erase all settings.
You will be able to restart all the configurations and pair your device again, following the steps.
Let me know how it goes,
Daniel.

Currently the beeping has stopped. I did nothing yet, as it seemed to stop whilst I planned carefully the best approach to not just fix it but to understand it and prevent it in future.
Now the automatched check logs still say all batteries are OK.
What I take from this is that I've no idea why it was beeping, that whatever caused it is unhandled and gives no logged issue or message or error and then now if there is a problem I and it are unaware of it.
If further issues occur I'll repost for others.
