Hello, just created an account here.
Currently, I have three Gen 2 Nest Protects, a wired Nest Outdoor, a wired Gen 1 Nest cam, and a Gen 3 Nest thermostat.
I recently bought two new wired Indoor Nest cams and discovered they are not able to be added to my Nest App; they are only compatible with the Google Home app. No big deal, I thought, I'll just use Google Home for all my Nest devices and uninstall the old Nest app.
I added the new Nest cameras to Google Home without issue. I made sure I could view my other old Nest devices in the app as well.
Except, unfortunately, I could not view or add my three Nest Protects. In fact, I discovered via some Googling that they are not compatible with the Google Home app for some reason. Looking through some of the threads on this site, this has been the case for well over a year.
So I'll be forced to split control of my Nest devices between two apps for the foreseeable future and can't help to ask why this is the case? Why can Nest cameras and thermostats and so many 3rd Party devices be so easily added and controlled in the Google Home app, but not the Nest Protects?

Likewise, I don't know how to link a Gen 2 Nest Protect (battery) to Google Home. Can this be done?

Hello folks,
Thanks for reaching out. Nest Protect as of the moment is exclusive to the Nest app. Also, it can only be connected to the 2.4GHz network. Though I'm on the same side with you with regards to controlling your Nest Protect through the Google Home app. It really is a convenient way to access it remotely. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send feedback about your concern using this form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this.
Best,
Emerson

How can you market this as a google device if it won’t even work with google home?? This makes the device terrible. Literally every chinese cheap smart devices can be added to google home but an expensive google nest protect can’t???? Downright laughable asking us to fill our forms. I will be making a tiktok vid and we will see what people think about this.
