“Tampered” message after replacing battery on door. All pieces look right, why isn’t it working?

Checked to make sure both pieces are on the door and secure, pushed the button twice. No change, still saying tampered.

Hi Rachel Massey 6397,

This is caused by your Nest Detect no longer making contact with its backplate and even a small gap might be enough to trigger the warning. If you continue to see the “Tamper” message after snapping Detect back in, pull it off and snap it back in again. Make sure it’s correctly aligned: no gaps or uneven spaces between Detect and the backplate.

this is a crap product.  i have two of these devices reporting a "tampered with" error.  this solution does not work and i have not been presented a solution that does work...

I just ran into this and couldn't find a solution so I was testing the button on the back and pushing all around it. Something in the button "popped" and it started working again. Not sure if it was just a fluke, but hopefully it helps someone else.

I had the same issue after replacing the battery. Tried removing and replacing the battery as well as reattaching several times. I dropped the device by mistake and then it magically started working once reattached a final time.
