Nest Protects losing wifi every few weeks

wobtotone

My new Nest Protects are having issues staying connected to my wifi. I have two Google wifi Pros so there should be plenty of signal to rely on. I’ve reset both of the Protects and for a period of time all seems well but same issue persists in the end. I’ve seen a lot of folks with same issue. So wassup here? Thx.

Hi wobtotone,

Thanks for reaching out to us, and I appreciate you being ahead of the troubleshooting. I’d like to take a look at this for you.

A few questions: Did you connect your Nest Protect to the 2.4 GHz network? Also, Is your device connected to an extender or secondary access point? If not, try to remove materials on top of, between, or around the access point that may interfere with the signal.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

Hey there! I have two Google Wifi Pros (one main and one point) and thought you couldn’t manually select which channel a device should be on—the units do that automatically. The units themselves are pretty free of any obstructions.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Please perform a Safety Checkup Test on your Nest Protect and check for its status.

1. Press the Nest button on a Protect. The blue light should turn on and it will speak to you.

2. When it says "Press to test", press the button a second time.

Regards,

Zoe

Hey wobtotone,

I wanted to follow up if you still need help. Please let me know if you’re still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Thanks for your help, Zoe.

Cheers,

Jenelyn

Hey there. I performed the Checkup test and everything came back fine, which was expected. The issue is the recurring loss of connection to wifi and then the inability to resync unless I restart my mesh network. Seems like a hardware issue that shouldn't happen with the price tag associated with these and the fact they are from the same company.

Just tonight the other Protect went offline again. They seem to be going back and forth (I have two).

Hi there,

It's me again. Have you tried to restart your Nest Protect aside from your network then checking if the same thing occurs? If not, please restart it and remove their batteries if needed.

Let us know if that works.

Thanks,

Zoe

Yep. Multiple times. It’s the only way to reconnect them to wifi. But I’m hoping there’s a fix because I’d rather not have to restart them every few weeks.

Hey wobtotone,

Thanks for getting back to us. Please check for the recommended WiFi settings of your Nest Protect by following this article.  If you're not familiar with Wi-Fi router settings, contact your internet service provider (ISP) or router manufacturer for help with these settings.

Best regards,

Zoe
