Hi!
I noticed the Nest Protect 2nd generation has a mine USB adapter on the back. Can I add a power adapter there instead or in addition to the batteries?
Thanks

Hi darienmt,
Thanks for posting. The 2nd generation battery-powered Nest Protect has a micro-USB port on the back for diagnostic and maintenance purposes, but it is not powered. The alarm is only powered by six Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries (L91), ensuring it continues to operate even in the event of a power outage, ensuring safety and reliability. On the other hand, the Nest Protect 2nd generation wired Nest Protect can be powered by using a 120V AC connector, where the Nest Protect (wired 120 V) has a small green light located at the top of the Nest button. It will be on as long as Nest Protect is getting AC power from the electrical wires. If there’s a wiring problem or power outage, the green light will turn off, and Nest Protect will switch to backup batteries. You’ll also see a yellow (instead of green) Nightly Promise light when you turn off the lights for the night.
Let us know if that helps.
Best,
Zoe
