Nest protect is region locked?

Hi all - I own a Google Nest Protect 2nd Generation (model Topaz 2.33, Software 3.5rc3) and I am trying to set it up in South America, but looks like this region is locked, can someone confirm? It makes no sense for a device like this to be region locked.

Hi @giovannirescia,

Thank you for your post and the detailed information you've provided. I understand that you are experiencing some setting up issues with your Nest Protect 2nd generation and that you're wondering if the area you're in is locked. I am here to help. Let's work together to find a solution.

To assist you with the best solution, I would like to get a bit more information:

  • When did you purchase the device?
  • Where did you purchase the device?
  • Is this the first time that you set up the device?
  • What is the error message that you receive when you try to set up the device?
  • Where exactly are you located?

In the meantime, you can check this article: Nest Protect certifications.

Please keep me posted.

Warm regards,

Jeremy.

Hi @cifuentesj

  • The device was purchased on Oct 25th 2024
  • The device was purchased on Amazon.com
  • This is not the first time setting up the device
  • When trying to connect the device to WiFi through the protect app I get error P014
  • I am located in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Thanks,

Giovanni

Hi @giovannirescia,

Thank you for your timely post and the comprehensive information you've provided. In this case, the region in which you are located, the Nest Protect 2nd generation is not compatible at this moment. With the error code P014, you can try a few troubleshooting steps:

  • Make sure your app version is up to date.
  • Make sure your home Wi-Fi is working.
  • Move your Nest Protect closer to your router.
  • Restart the router.
  • Restart your Nest Protect and your mobile device.
  • Check the settings on your Wi-Fi router or access point as shown below: Check your router's support for IPv6 and multicast. Turn on 2.4 GHz.

You can look at this article in the interim: Learn about devices & services available in your region.

Please keep me posted and let me know how it goes.

Warm regards,

Jeremy.

@cifuentesj I am confused - if it's region locked, then would the troubleshooting steps help at all?

Thank you for your prompt reply. I understand that it can be a bit confusing, but in this case, you could try if the steps provided in the previous post restore your Nest Protect 2nd generation to its default settings. can be a bit confusing, but in this case, you could try if the steps provided in the previous post restore your Nest Protect 2nd generation to its default settings.
