Nest protect wired 2nd generation

I am wanting to buy a nest protect 2nd gen wired but the carbon monoxide detector only lasts for 10years. Is this from date of installation? or date or manufacturer as there are dates on the back when to change, is there any dates on the packaging or only on the back of product. Only asking as I don’t want to buy from shop and find it’s old stock and I will not get the full 10year out of it as maybe manufactured in 2018 and need changed in 2028 I will lose 5years out of product. Can any one help with this before I buy.

I think 10 years is pretty standard for a carbon monoxide detector. It is NOT from date of installation. The dates for our non-Google Nest carbon monoxide detectors is printed on the detector itself, and they are all 10 years. I cannot recall whether the date was on the packaging as well.

I don't know how you can ensure you don't get old stock, but I think with a carbon monoxide detector I think it would be unethical for the Google Store or a retailer to sell old detectors.

Hello Lindz68,

The Nest Protect has an expected lifespan starting on the date of manufacture. The life expectancy of the second-generation Nest Protect is 10 years, which is longer than the typical CO sensor life expectancy of 7 years.

Environmental variables or heavy usage can reduce the sensor's anticipated lifespan. However, the functioning of the device shouldn't be affected after the sensor's anticipated life span by time spent in a sealed box on a shelf. Here is a link to find the expiration date on Nest Protect.

Thanks for the input, @MplsCustomer.

Best,
Edmond

I wouldnt put it past Google to sell old stock, so if you do buy, be sure to check. I would find a different detector though as development of this one seems to be non existant despite google's claims of it being on some roadmap somewhere.
