Nest protect won’t connect or factory reset

I initially started getting a low battery beep every minute or so which is how I realized that the nest protect was no longer syncing to the app. Replacing the batteries fixed the beeping issue for two days but I still wasn’t able to add the device and eventually it started beeping again (it stops when it’s hooked up to a usb). 
 
When I try adding the protect to the app, I get this message:
"Something went wrong. This device (Living Room Nest Protect) can't be set up. Factory Reset this device by holding down the Nest button for 10 seconds. Then try setting it up again"
 
Followed the instructions for a factory reset but I never hear the version number, instead after holding the button down for a couple of seconds the Nest says: "Checking the network just a moment", the light turns off, and then nothing happens. If I hold it down long enough eventually it chimes, says “hi”, and then nothing.

check your router to see if the device has a fixed ip allocated as that might be stopping it from reconnecting as it maybe trying on a different IP.

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Protect won’t connect or complete the factory reset. I'll be more than glad to help you.

To factory reset the Nest Protect, follow the steps below:

  • Press and hold your Protect’s button. It will chime and glow blue. Continue holding the button down.
  • Release the button when your Protect starts to say its version number.
  • Your Protect will start a verbal countdown and tell you it’s erasing all your settings.
  • To cancel the factory reset, press Protect’s button again during the countdown. 
  • After a few seconds, your Protect will reset to its factory default settings.You can then go through setup with the app and add it to an account again.
