No Wifi - Nest Protect Chirping

Hi!  I am moving into a new house, and there are existing Nest Protect units there already.  It keeps chirping intermittently because it's not connected to wifi.  I am hoping to have internet set up soon, but we're going to be doing work in the house before that.  Is there any way to power it down, or get it to stop chirping without a wifi connection?

The only way to do that would be to disconnect it from mains power (if it's a wired model) and remove the batteries.
