One Google Smoke / Carbon Monoxide Detector keeps losing wifi connection

I have 3 Nest Smoke / Carbon Monoxide detectors at our cottage set up so that we can get alerts in the event of any issues.  2 work as expected, but the third unit regularly disconnects from wifi - ironically, it is the one closest to our router…

When this device is not connecting to wifi, will I still receive notification of an issue given two devices are still connected to wifi?  In the app, the Protect light for the network s has a green ring;  the “Protect” icon is grey and shows “1 Offline”.  I deleted the sensor from the app and added it back - it stayed connected for about 10-14 days and then went back to this state.

Any suggestions on how to correct and keep a stable connection?

Hi TrekGuy,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I am sorry to hear that your Nest Protect is disconnecting from the Wi-Fi network. But no need to worry, help is here.

Since you've already tried the basic troubleshooting steps for your Nest App and Nest Protect not connecting to the new network, let's move on to some more advanced solutions:

Checking Network Settings:

  • Network Name and Password: Double-check that you're entering the correct Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password when trying to reconnect your Nest Protect. A typo can prevent a successful connection.
  • Guest Network: Make sure your Nest Protect isn't connected to a guest network. Guest networks often have limitations on device communication, which can cause issues with Nest Protect.
  • 5 GHz Network: While less common, some Nest Protects might not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks. If your router offers separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, try connecting Nest Protect to the 2.4 GHz network specifically.

Advanced Troubleshooting:

  • Network Reset (if comfortable): If you're comfortable with it, consider restarting your Wi-Fi router. This can sometimes clear up communication issues between your Nest Protect and the network.
  • Nest App Update: Ensure you're running the latest version of the Nest app on your phone or tablet. Updates often contain bug fixes related to network connectivity for Nest devices.
  • Factory Reset (Last Resort): If none of the above solutions work, consider resetting your Nest Protect to factory settings. This will erase all its data and settings, including Wi-Fi information. Note: Before resetting, make sure you know your Wi-Fi network name and password for re-setup.

If the above steps don't resolve the issue please keep me posted. You can also try these steps if you Can’t connect Nest Protect to the app or Wi-Fi and to Troubleshoot when Nest Protect disconnects or is offline

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Best,

Mario

Thanks Mario.  I had tried these steps before without success.  That said, I tried the ‘press and hold’ option when we came back up - the first day it would lose wifi connection and re-establish.  It’s now seemed stable for about a week and will continue to monitor.
