P009 Error Message

jwmarburg
Community Member

I recently switch from cable internet to ATT Fiber, but still utilize my nest wifi as the wifi router. I disabled wifi from my ATT router. I have been able to add all of my other nest products, thermostat, cameras, etc. to my wifi. However, the nest protect Gen 2 will not connect.

I reset the Protect, unplugged, restarted my ATT router, restarted my Nest Wifi from the Google Home app, and still no luck. I keep getting the P009 error message and have tried every single troubleshoot both regular and advanced. I even setup a 2.4ghz and 5ghz network on google home wifi app, and tried both, still no luck. Any suggestions other than throwing this thing out the window?

Hi @jwmarburg

I've also seen an uptick in community members posting about that error code. I'll escalate over to our support team and see if they can help.

Here is the Nest Help Guide for that error: Troubleshoot a P002, P008, P009, P013, or P018 Nest Protect message - Google Nest Help

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. To isolate it further, could you please create a new home structure and add your Nest Protect there? Let me know how it goes.

I appreciate your help, @JillG.

Best,
Jenelyn

Hi there, I created a test home in the Nest App and the Nest Protect 2 was able to connect just fine to the test home. It still will not connect to my original home, which has all of my nest and google products already connected.

Hi jwmarburg,

Thanks for the update! How about moving all the devices in your new home structure? It might work. You can try it first with your Nest Thermostat.

Regards,

Jenelyn

Although that would work, moving my 20 plus devices from my current home to another wouldn't be ideal.  Appears there is a flaw in the Nest Protect, even after a full factory reset it still won't connect to my existing home after changing Wifi credentials. Tried one more time today and still getting the P009 error code. I've bought another Nest Protect to see if that will work. Hopefully there is a resolution in the near future so I can install my old one in another room.

Thanks for the help though!
