Protect - Restore Nest App connection

Caesius

I can’t reconnect my 6 Protect devices any more. They are running since January 2019. All of the devices are still connected to my WIFI (home) network und to each other. Triggering a test alarm on one device triggers a test alarm on all devices.

The (main) problem: For a few months now, none of the devices have been displayed in my Nest app, only the name of my home network, which was and is previously assigned to all Protect devices.

So far all my attempts to register the devices in the Nest app have failed. The only thing I haven't done is a hard reset of the individual devices because in the past that meant an “end of life” in two cases. 5 devices still work in the WLAN and “talk” to each other (test alarm on one device leads to a test alarm on all devices).

I have already (largely) migrated to Google Home, but so far without success (no Protect appears in the Google Home app).

The attempt to reconnect each individual Protect device to the Nest app, e.g. by scanning the barcode (without a prior hardware reset), has so far failed.

How can my problem be solved (without hardware resetting all devices)?

Hi Caesius,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’d be happy to help you with Nest Protect. Let’s check it out.

Follow the steps below to confirm that the mobile device and the Nest app are up-to-date.

  1. Check for iOS updates and install them if there´s any.
  2. Uninstall the Nest app, then restart the mobile device.
  3. Reinstall the Nest app and verify if the Nest Protect devices are now online.

If the issue persists, check out this handy guide to help you if you can’t connect Nest Protect to the app or Wi-Fi.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Lance

Hi Lance_L,

Thank you for your suggested steps. Unfortunately nothing helped.

Here is my situation (again):

1. Five Nest protect devices are online and connected to each other

2. Nest App (after migration to Google App) can see the home (name) of my Nest protect devices.

3. The home of my Nest protect devices is empty (not showing any included protect devices) - re-connection with barcode scan or manual setup doesn't work with any device

I haven't tried (hard)resetting protect devices yet. I prefer to avoid it as I've lost devices that way in the past.

Any idea how to solve this?

Thanks and best,

Caesius

Hello Caesius,

Thanks for the follow-up information. Let’s check if you have multiple home structures in the Nest app. You can only check and control products in one home at a time with the Nest app. If you have more than one home in the app, you need to switch between them.

  1. Open the Nest app Nest app.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu .
  3. Tap the home you want to switch to.

You should be taken back to the app home screen, where you can find the Nest products you have in the home you selected.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Lance
