How do I get a noticeable alert on my phone if my Google Protect smoke alarm goes off? Think right now it just sends an unobtrusive message to the Nest app. When I’m not home and there’s a fire I want a LOUD notice, not something subtle…

mine does not alert me unless app is open and im staring at it

That's kinda crazy. The one time you want a seriously intrusive phone alert is when you are away and your house is on fire. Hope someone in this community has a hack for it!

Hi, it's not offline, it's working fine. Pls read my initial post: smoke/fire alerts are only visible in the app and get delivered quietly. I would like be notified in a louder, more intrusive manner when there's a fire in my house while I'm away. Like a banner notification on my home screen with (a lot of) sound. I would like to hear this even at night when my phone is on mute. Btw the Critical Notifications setting is on for Google Home.

Hi @solange1.,
Thanks for your reply and the additional information.
Unfortunately, it's not currently possible to customize Google Home notifications in the way you've described. As this involves general phone notifications, it's outside the scope of our support.
Let us know if you have further questions regarding any Google Nest product. We are here, ready to assist.
Regards,
Catheryn.

First support replies with an unrelated article, then states it's impossible to change notification sounds on an app that doesn't even support the detectors. 🤦♂️
If you're actually able to get a status bar notification from the Nest app (i can't) you could set an obnoxious sound. The reliability of notifications are questionable though.

100% agree....so disappointing. Hope someone from product development reads this. Without a reliable & "obnoxious" alert the Google smoke alarm offers no real advantage to a regular $40 alarm. Sure it's nice the alarm can be turned off on my phone if I've been cooking with a bit too much enthusiasm, but I really wanted it for when I have a serious house fire and I'm not home.
