What a rip off that Google have dropped their smoke detection. Their advice is to buy a first alert device which you cannot source in the uk, only available in the USA, and by all reports is utter garbage. At the moment would you really want to be engaging with another US company directly to import a product??
you would expect better from Google and I feel as though I’ve wasted money.
I’ll think twice about buying any Google product in the future.

I too have 2 Nest Protect 2nd generation smoke detectors and both are expiring within the next 30 days, i.e the end of their 10 year life span. I've contacted Nest Support and expressed my utter frustration at the lack of availability of replacements, which leaves my home without smoke and carbon monoxide detection. These product are no longer produced or supported.
I estimate a very large number of homes and small businesses will very soon be, or already, unprotected. It is inconceivable that Google did not plan for this situation at least 2 years ago, and set up a return-and-replace service with users sent a replacement refurbished product, for a fixed price charge. The Protect unit, as I am aware, only requires a new ionisation component to be swapped out which would extend the life of the detector.
