Wired Nest Protect fails to notify power outages

I have a battery Nest Protect and a wired Nest Protect.  I loved the power out notification from the wired unit, but two recent power outages (48 hours and a week later, 24 hours) failed to notify (I was home so I knew) or record the outage in history, which is the part I like a lot.   Both units test fine (after first outage, and again after second outage).  The power outages also take down my Nest Pro wifi router, so seems like the Nest protect should recognize.

Hi @frblrpwptr,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I am sorry to hear that the notifications for power did not work as expected. I’d be happy to help you with Nest Protect. Let’s check it out.

If the Nest app reports a different power status than the Nest Protect itself, it's usually because of a delay in updating its status. The Nest app may show that your Nest Protect power is out for up to 24 hours after a brief power outage or fluctuations on the lines.

Follow the steps from this guide when Nest Protect’s green power light is on, but the app says the power is out.  You can also check the following details regarding Nest notifications not working

Let me know if you need further assistance..

Best,

Mario

Hi @frblrpwptr,

Thanks for the details provided, I am sorry for the issue you are having with the alerts for power outages in your Nest Protect.

A difference in power status between the Nest app and your Nest Protect usually indicates a delay in the app updating. Here's how to tackle this situation:

  1. Wait and Observe: In most cases, the Nest app should update the power status automatically within 24 hours.
  2. Manual Update: If you can't wait, try manually updating the Nest Protect:
  • Simply press the Nest button on your wired Nest Protect once. This will prompt it to connect to the internet and update its status in the app.

       3. Check Nest Online Services:  If the status hasn't been updated after a day or you suspect a Nest service outage, visit the Nest Support Site to see if there are any reported issues.

       4. Manual Test (Optional):  For additional confirmation of functionality, you can perform a manual test on your Nest Protect:

  • Press the Nest button once. It should say "Ready, press to test".
  • Press the button again to initiate a manual test. This will confirm the unit is working properly and also trigger an update to the Nest app.

Keep me updated.

Best,

Mario

The Nest app showed continuous power to the wired Protect through a 48 hour power outage and a separate 24 hour power outage,  Power was totally out to my home.  No router, no internet, no wired power to the Protect.  I did not get any alerts.  The outages do not appear in history.  In previous outages, it worked great to let me know as the power went out and returned multiple times during rolling blackouts, but it's not working like that now.
