I just moved in to a place that has the nest guard installed. I’ve been trying to set it up, and holding 2 won’t take me back to factory reset. Now the alarm went off and won’t stop!! I’m desperate here!

I'm in similar situation, I had it removed form my protect network, and now trying to setup it again, I put the batteries on, hold the button and it tells me it will start factory reset in 5, counts to 3 and the alarm fire off and cancels the reset, again and again, tried it many times different days in different places, it is the device, there is no smoke at the house, neither outside of it.

Additionally, it is not longer registered in the house, but the other 2 devices still get triggered by it somehow and its all noise everywhere for no reason.

Hi folks,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Let's sort this out.

A reason why a Nest Protect won’t stop beeping is that its batteries are already low. Have you tried to change the Nest Protect’s batteries? If not yet, replace the batteries with Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

I wanted to check and see if you are still in need of any help. Please let me know, as I would be happy to assist, and answer any questions you may have.

Thanks,

Zoe

Thanks for reaching out. I'm still not able to get it to work. Any suggestion on what should I try?

Hi sdavtaker,

Is it possible to get the latest firmware installed? I had some bugs running an older version but these seems to be resolved in 3.5.

Not sure if that works but you might want to give that a try, if these units do still connect.

Is there a way to install the firmware using a usb cable? Since I cannot make it setup it cannot make it connect to the wifi.

Hey folks,

@sdavtaker, thanks for getting back to us. To confirm, were you able to try replacing the batteries of your Nest Protect? Could you confirm if you're following the steps below on how to reset your Nest Protect?

To reset:

  1. Press and hold your Protect’s button. It will chime and glow blue. Continue holding the button down.
  2. Release the button when your Protect starts to say its version number.
  3. Your Protect will start a verbal countdown and tell you it’s erasing all your settings.
    1. To cancel the factory reset, press Protect’s button again during the countdown.
  4. After a few seconds your Protect will reset to its factory default settings. You can then go through setup with the app and add it to an account again.

Looking forward to your response.

I appreciate the help, xtiman82 and Zoe.

Regards,

Emerson
