nest protect doesn't connect to wifi

My Nest Protect devices (I don't know if they're Gen 1 or Gen 2) haven't connected to my internet since I replaced my router. I have opened the app and it says it cannot connect to them. They are glowing blue, just nothing happens. Sometimes I get a P014 error.

I have tried restarting the router. Everything else works fine, including the Nest thermostat. I have tried reinstalling the Nest app.  I have tried returning the protect to factory settings, and now my phone can't connect to it at all, because it requires connecting to another Nest Protect in order to work. I have tried changing my router to 2.4ghz. I'm getting very frustrated.

There are two solutions to this issue:

  1. Turn off your other Nest products, then retry setup. This avoids it trying to use those as an assisting device to get your Wi-Fi network details, which is what is failing.
  2. Create a new home structure in the app, and set them in a new home.
