Hi!

The previous owner didn’t remove thermostat from his account, after I tried to contact him without success , I did 3 factory reset and Wi-fi reset, but I cannot connect to the google home app.

i can connect to my Wi-Fi network but when I trying to connect to app , after several min. I get message :        “ something went wrong , try again”

and again .... and .... same message.

Any suggestion?

That's because you need to use the Nest app, not Google Home app, to setup that model of thermostat.

  1. If you haven’t already, download the Nest app on a phone or tablet.
  2. On the Nest app home screen, tap the Settings cog.
  3. Tap Add product. The app will switch to a camera view to scan the thermostat’s QR code.
  4. On the thermostat, press it to open the quick view menu and tap the Settings cog.
  5. Turn the ring to select Nest app and press to open it.
  6. Select QR code. Your thermostat will show you a unique QR code to scan with the app. If it doesn't, tap Continue without scanning in the app and select Get entry key on your thermostat instead.
  7. Follow the remaining steps in the Nest app.

Factory resetting the thermostat will have removed the previous owner. As for setting it up, which model of thermostat do you have?

How to tell which Nest thermostat you have - Google Nest Help

Nest Thermostat must be setup using the Google Home app. All other models must be setup using the Nest app.

I am unable to connect Nest thermostat gen 3 to google Home app. It is connected to Nest App. Tried connecting from Google Home App ->Set up a Device -> Works with Google->Nest-> at this stage I do not see connecting with Google account and I do not have Nest App logins.

Please advise how to connect thermostat to Google Home App.

Thanks 😉

Hello there,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

@Awe, I'm glad to know that it was sorted out with the help of our product expert here.

Thank you for guiding the customer with all your steps. @David_K

@Amish, you no longer need to add your thermostat as a new device in the Google Home app if you already have it installed in the Nest app. Please make sure that you're signed in with the correct email address in the Google Home app, the same as with your thermostat. If so, check for other available structures where your thermostat might be connected. Please check out this guide and let us know if you need more help.

Regards,

Mark

Hi Amish,

I'm checking back in. Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you, and I'd like to make sure that you were able to link your thermostat in the Google Home app.

Regards,

Mark

Once setup in the Nest app, it should appear in the Home app as well if you're signed into both apps using the same account.

That’s the main problem doesn’t appear in google home  app on same account of course.

Try these steps:

  1. Force close both the Nest app and Home app.
    • Android: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the app.
    • iPhone/iPad: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the app. On older devices with a home button, double-click the Home button, then swipe up on the app.
  2. Re-open the Home app.
  3. Check if the device is listed under a room name or under "local devices."

If you still can't see the device try these steps:

  1. Create a new "home" in the Home app.
    • At the top left, tap the + icon.
    • Tap Create new home.
    • Follow the steps.
  2. Check if you can see the new "home" in the Nest app.
    • At the top left, tap the menu icon.
    • At the top right, tap the + icon > Continue > Select the home > Continue.
    • Follow the steps.

This should cause a sync to occur and your device may now appear in the Home app. If you still can't see the device, I would recommend resetting it, and setting it up in the new "home" you just created which you can see in both apps. To do that:

  1. Reset your thermostat to defaults.
  2. Remove your thermostat from the Nest app.
  3. Add your Nest thermostat back to the Nest app. Make sure you select the new home in the app that you created during setup.
