Hey folks,

Thanks for your response, Patrick_Caezza.

Ronm21, please keep an eye out on our Google Store page for the availability of the thermostat's base. If I may ask though, what seems to be the reason why you're checking on having it replaced?

Best,

Melba

Hi Melba, I’ve been having problems with the thermostat losing power/shutting down. I added a C wire and that resulted in the thermostat not recognizing the Rh/Rc. I removed the Nest and installed the original Honeywell standard and everything works fine. Just trying to troubleshoot myself, I really want the Nest to work, it did up until four or five months ago.

Hey there,

My apologies for the delay.

Could you provide a photo of your thermostat wires? Also, any specific code that you're getting on your thermostat display?

Best,

Melba

Sorry for the delay. This is the wiring, Before I added the C wire I was having a problem with the thermostat battery not charging and shutting down about every two days. After adding the C wire, the thermostat was not recognizing the RH/RC wire and not working at all.

This is not allowing photo to be loaded. Yellow in Y1, green in G,  orange in O/B, black in AUX, dark blue in C, red in Rh.

Hi folks,

@Melba, thanks for the help!

@Ronm21, I'm sorry for the late response. I'd love to know more about what's happening and I have a few questions:

  • What's the exact message that you're getting from the display of your Nest Thermostat?
  • Have you tried moving the wire to RC?
  • Does your Nest Thermostat recognize it if you disconnect the C wire?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward, the message before I added the C wire was that the thermostat was shutting down because battery was low. I installed this thermostat years ago and had no problems, about 1-1.5 years ago it started shutting down and id have to recharge off the base. Using Rc or Rh made no difference. After adding C wire, the thermostat wouldn’t recognize Rh or Rc and therefore wouldn’t work at all.

Hey Ronm21,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community.

The C wire (common) should give the thermostat the stable power to stay connected and turned on. Could you check the wire (Rc and Rh) and try to re-strip them and plug them back in.

Thanks for your help, Edward.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hey Ryan, I do need more help, but haven’t reinstalled the thermostat yet. I’ll try what you suggest and restrip the R wire and see if it’s recognized this time.

Trying to reinstall nest, it sat for approximately 24 hrs charging, took it off the charger today and five hrs later I’ve tried to install and now I’m getting “thermostat shutting down to charge the battery”. Could this be a faulty battery?

I was able to get enough charge on nest to install, but still having the same problem, if C wire is inserted, Rh/Rc not recognized. Only when I disconnect the C wire is the system able to run, but I’m sure only until the battery is too low and thermostat once again shuts down.
