I’ve been without heating for a week now. Error code H71. Thermostat not linking to Heat Link?!

have factory reset and everything.

google will not replace as it’s outside of warranty and have credit £80 towards a replacement on our Google store account.
problem is, it’s not available to purchase, there’s a waiting list and it’s not available anywhere in the uk from a reputable retailer.

been on the phone to Google

all week and all they can do is apologise and suggest I replace it with a new one. Does anyone know where I can get one from in the uk? Thanks

That’s really frustrating. The H71 error usually means the Heat Link has failed, and if resets didn’t help, replacement is the only fix. Sadly the 3rd gen isn’t easy to find in the UK anymore since Google quietly stopped selling it. You might have better luck checking with local heating installers—some still keep stock for replacements. Otherwise, places like Screwfix or even smaller electrical suppliers sometimes have a few units left even if they’re not listed online. If you’re stuck, you could also ask an installer about swapping to Nest Thermostat E, which is still supported and available.

What’s the difference between the 3rd generation and E? Would I need to replace both thermostat and Heatlink if I made the swap?

The first questions here are, do you have any lights on the Heat Link?

Do you have power to the Heat Link, if no lights?

Heat Link is on and also working. I’m able to tap once and heating works.
only problem is the thermostat. Error message H71. Not linking to Heat Link

OK, I would think there is very little wrong with the Heat Link.

What colour lights do you have on the Heat Link, and if you press the Heat Link button what happens and which lights come on? Does the boiler come alive?

Can you also go into the Tech page at the H71 error and look at the Heat Link page, make a note of the 6 digit code shown there.
