3rd generation thermostat wont charge and keeps disconnecting from the internet and my phone app.

I noticed quite a while ago that there was an issue with the phone app so just assumed it was a problem with the phone. I only recently discovered that the controller was constantly switching off to re charge the battery. I assumed it was doing just that and re booting afterwards but with closer inspection it was never taking much of a charge. I have tried charging remotely as suggested , I changed the cable and charger as suggested in the forums but without any luck. please assist me to find a remedy,

thank you in advance Thomas

Yes, been there, done that!

FIRST:

The Nest 3 needs to be charged with a regular USB cable, till it says return to wall plate and then Nest 3 needs to finish charging for another hour or so at least.

NEXT:

Program with your Router's wifi Name and wifi Password, wait 10 minutes, goto the NEST webpage https://home.nest.com/home/ Add product (Refresh), download and install Phone app and Add product

NEXT:

Program with Phone app AC/Heat/Economy Temperatures/Fan/Schedule Temperatures/Safety Temperatures and

Switch on/off selectables

NEXT:

Enjoy!

Hi thank you for your post, My nest is constantly connected to a USB cable and as far as I knew was constantly being charged. Should I be doing something different?

thank you in advance Thomas

Hello  thomasmaher,

I'm here to assist you with your Wi-Fi connectivity issue. We'll work together to identify the cause of the problem and find a solution. Just to check: what are the labels of the wires connected to your Nest thermostat? How long does it take for the thermostat to go on low battery after being charged? When was your Nest thermostat installed?

Thanks for the help, @Anonymous.

I look forward to your response.

Best,
Edmond

HI, MY PROBLEM IS NOT A WIFI ISSUE, ITS A BATTERY ONE, I HAVE CHARGED IT NUMEROUS TIMES BUT IT LASTS JUST A FEW SECONDS , WHEN I OPEN THE SETTINGS MENU IT CLOSES DOWN ALMOST IMEDIATELY JUST FOR THE RECORD THE NEST SITS IN A STAND WITH THE USB CABLE THER CONTINUESLY SO I CANT SEE A WAY OF CHARGING ANY OTHER WAY

Hi thomasmaher,

I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

It seems like you've already taken some troubleshooting steps by charging it numerous times, but the problem persists. Since the device shuts down quickly when you open the settings menu, it might be indicative of a more complex issue.

To confirm, from what country are you posting? Do you see any LED light status blinking on the display? Also, gather the power readings in the Technical Info settings.

I look forward to your response.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark, firstly thanks for sticking by me on this.

I live in Scotland, there’s a tiny flashing green light when it’s trying to charge.

it’s difficult to get any information from the thermostat as it closes down so quickly.

the battery readings are 3.991v

vusb reads 4.96v

Vin reads 0.00v

i hope this is what you we’re looking for.

regards Thomas

Those are the power readings we'd generally want to see. You mentioned it turns off. Does it turn back on by itself after a while?

If possible, try accessing Settings> Reset> Network and perform the reset. In some cases if the thermostat is having problems keeping a connection, this can cause the internal battery to drain and for the display to turn off. Try performing this reset if possible and not connecting it back to the Wi-Fi. Leave it disconnected for a day or two and see if it still turns off or stays on.

Hi there, just checking in with you. Did you manage to check my colleague's last message?

Hi, Despite me trying to do this numerous times, there is not enough power in the battery to go through the settings menu to do action this.

thank you for staying with me on this

regards Thomas

Also I have the main controller at the boiler set to manual but I think that the nest switches it off after a period of time which leaves the house cold If I do not notice on time.
