A/C Compressor Attempting To Run

bwaz97
Community Member

I have noticed occasionally the outdoor A/C compressor attempts to run when the heat turns on. I would say it only attempts to run for about 2 seconds before it shuts off. It sounds like it is struggling to start since it is so cold outside but it shouldn't be running at all! I have checked the wiring and settings on my Nest and everything appears to be correct to me. This is not the first Nest I have installed. Any insight on what could be causing this? This has only been an issue since I installed this new thermostat. I am hoping it hasn't caused damage.

Hello bwaz97,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

It's most likely a power-related concern, and I would love to know more about this. Could you share a photo of your thermostat's wiring with us? When did you install it? Also, please check your thermostat's power readouts under the "Technical Info" settings.

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Mark

@EdwardT @Markjosephp Thanks for your replies. This is still an issue. I have talked with an HVAC professional and we have determined there is nothing wrong with the control board on the furnace. I have also determined that the issue only occurs when the C wire is attached to the base of the thermostat.

Hi bwaz97,

Thanks for the response. Could you share the power reading of your Nest Thermostat while the C wire is connected? You can find this information by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Thanks,
