A List of Nest Thermostat Problems

This is going to cover several things.

1) Can’t find ANY networks. I live in an apt. The thermostat was replaced. Same issue. I spent nearly 2 hours on a chat going through all of the things that are already listed online—things I’d already done. At one point, the person told me to shut off my internet and cell service on my phone. When I pointed out that would log me off of the chat, I was told my info would be sent to me and I could restart. That seemed like a ploy to get rid of me. I pressed on and didn’t log off of the cellular connection. To make a long story short, my router is a few feet from my Nest. The person tried to send me to another person by I needed to leave my house.

i’ve tried adding my WiFi by name, restarting the devices (both the original and new one). Did the same with my router, cellphone, the app, etc. stood on my head, sent smoke signals! I know the second one was connected to someone’s app because I had to disconnect it! This is a problem all over the internet and it doesn’t seem like Google is really attempting any real fixes. Any chance you can send me a new one?

That was a week or so ago. Now, it’s cold where I live and I notice that the base is getting very hot! It’s a minimum of 10 degrees hotter than it is in the apartment which means the heat doesn’t come on. If I turn the heat up to 82, it will come on but not long enough to make a difference since the actual temp is more like 71! This is ALSO a recurring problem all over the internet and something else Google seems to be ignoring.

Hi 26timesacharm,

Oh no! i'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing internet and temperature issues with your Nest Thermostat. Are you located in North America or Europe? What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?

  1. For your Nest Thermostat having internet issue:
    • If your Nest Thermostat is unable to detect Wi-Fi networks, ensure your network is functioning properly and within range. Check if other devices can connect without issues and try connecting the thermostat to a different network.
    • To minimize interference in your apartment complex's Wi-Fi signal, try changing the router's Wi-Fi channel to a less congested one. Consult your router's manual or contact your internet service provider for assistance.
    • Position your Nest thermostat strategically, avoiding metal objects, mirrors, or electronic devices that could disrupt Wi-Fi signal, and ensure it's within range of your Wi-Fi router.
    • Connect your thermostat to a mobile hotspot to check more on its connectivity.
  2. For your thermostat showing 10 degrees hotter than the actual room temperature. A few questions:
    • When was the thermostat installed?
    • Where did you install your thermostat (in a room and on a wall or stand)?
    • Do you have other active Nest Thermostats? If yes, do they show the same issue?
    • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? If yes, would you mind listing them?

If you have a room thermometer, take a photo of the thermometer next to the Nest Thermostat. Both the thermometer and thermostat screens should be visible in the photo and show the difference in each other’s readouts.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Zoe
