Our landlords just installed one of these monstrosities and the dang thing won't turn off. We do not use the app, don't want to use the app, and just want to be able to turn it on, off, and set temperature manually, but turning it to the "off" position and clicking the command doesn't turn it off, despite the OFF notation appearing on the screen.
To top it off, some "eco" mode seems to be activated that we did NOT set. I don't know what model the thing is because the instruction sheet they left for us has precious little info.
Help! The constant noise is driving us nuts.

He may have wired the fan (green wire most time) to one of the R spots and is feed power constantly and not just when needed. Pull cover off thermostat, it won't hurt anything and see if it has a wire in the G terminal

Thanks. Wires seemed to be connected as they should be.

Since OFF doesn't even work, see DanMag's helpful answer about the wiring. But then if that gets resolved, here's some basic advice.
The instructions are here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9248184?hl=en, including how to tell what model you have. In order to use the Nest as an old-fashioned manual non-programmable not-smart thermostat, you'll need to turn off the "smart" features (Home/Away Assist and Eco Mode) and you'll also need to delete any schedule that was set by default or by your landlord. But actually you may want to program a schedule instead of just controlling manually. All of this is easier from the website, home.nest.com, than from standing at the unit twirling the dial. You do need to know the username and password, though.

I removed all the temperature history, smart features, schedule, etc., except the eco mode logo won’t go away.
We had to pull the unit off the wall to reset, but still it didn’t want to turn off. Finally fiddled around enough to get it to turn off, but after we had it running for a while without any problems, when it came time to turn it off again it kept running. 🥴 One would think that hitting an off button & it showing “off,” that it would be off… but whatever…
I’m not sure exactly what I did that made it turn off again, but so far, it seems to behaving like a normal, analogue thermostat now. 😉
Thanks for the tips. 😊

Got it to turn off and it seems to be functioning as a simple analogue-style thermostat. Fingers crossed that it continues. 😉

Well, it was working fine for several days. Set the temp & it would go on/off in keeping with the temperature setting. Then this morning at around 4am it kicked back on and despite the thermostat saying OFF, it’s still running. 🥴
We’ve contacted our bldg’s maintenance dept & they’re coming Thursday.
I will keep you posted on the results.
Cheers!

Hey RedsterLA,
Gotcha — waiting for the building maintenance's recommendation sounds like a good plan. I'll wait for your update.

It kept freaking out & the maintenance tech finally came. He replaced a relay he said was faulty, and it seems to have done the trick. 😊
Thanks, everyone, for your help. Cheers!
