AC condenser running while heat is on

Hello, I’ve installed a Nest thermostat and the ac  condenser is running while the furnace is running. This is a gas furnace system.

I have hooked it up exactly as the old thermostat was which is why it makes no sense to me since it was running fine before.

it is a 4 wire hook up, Y,W,R,G. I have also tried moving W to *O/B but nothing.

i Can tell the furnace is running fine as it is calling for heat and the pilot light visually comes on.

the settings in the app are set to forced air, electric. The system is gas but the option to change it greyed out.

does any know what I can do to make it not Tun the ac condenser along side the furnace ?

this is the original thermostat. The new nest is wired exactly this.

Hi Daniel12,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. Could you share the labels where the wires are connected to on your previous thermostat? Also, please check the power reading of your Nest Thermostat. You can find this information by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi EdwardT,

Thank you for replying to my thread. I seem to have figured out the issue.

it seems like the thermostat was taking to much power from Y to keep itself powered which in turn made the condenser run. There was a spare wire that I hooked up to the furnace to use as C and that seemed to fix the issue after a factory reset.

let me know if my logic there made sense ? Just in case someone else comes along this thread later.

thanks 😊

Hello there,

I wanted to ensure that everything is covered here.

Thanks for helping here, Edward.

That's fantastic news, @Daniel12! Thanks for updating us on how you figured out and rectified your concern by installing a common wire. It indeed helped your system deliver constant power while stabilizing the flow of current into the thermostat. Please have a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.

Regards,

Mark
