Adding Nest Thermostat to Google home app does nothing

ScottS11
Community Member

Details:

  • Google Home app is latest version (no update available)
  • I'm on an iPhone 13 pro max running 15.3.1
  • Nest Thermostat was updated to latest software today(6.2-22)

Steps being taken:

  1. Open app on iPhone
  2. Click + sign at top left
  3. Select 'Set up device' option under 'Add to home' section
  4. Choose 'New devices' option
  5. Tap 'Next' on 'Choose a home' screen where my home option is already checked off
  6. It goes through 'Looking for devices' animation
  7. On 'What are you setting up?' screen that shows next, select 'Thermostat'
  8. On next screen, select 'Nest Thermostat' option
  9. Scan the QR code that I have displayed on the thermostat screen (not the one on the back of the unit, though it shouldn't matter)
  10. It recognizes the QR code then returns me to the home screen of my "home" with absolutely zero indication anything is going on

What can I do to resolve this?

Hi ScottS11,

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry for the delay.

If you're still having problems adding your Google Nest thermostat to the Google Home app, let's try a couple of things to further assist you. Check if your iPhone's Bluetooth is enabled. Make sure that app permission to Google Home app is enabled as well as Bluetooth.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Hey Ryan,  I am having the same problem.  I have added other items to Google Home and they work. But when I try to add the Nest thermostat it goes sideways.  I use both the QR code and the 6 digit code and both just immediately pop back to the main Google screen and nothing happens.  Side question.  With the quick add buttons at the top of the Google page it says "Migrate Nest".  Is that the actual process of migrating your nest account to Google.. or just bad choice of word to add your nest product to Google???
