Adding a thermostat to the Nest App - can't get a key code to put in

I just moved into a home with a Nest thermostat.  Connection to WiFi network is good.  I setup an account and downloaded the app fine.  When trying to add the thermostat to the app, it doesn't give me the key code.  It only says the thermostat is connected.

I restarted thermostat through settings.  Also rebooted my router and modem.

How do I get a key code when it doesn't show up on the thermostat, so I can add it to the Nest app?

Hello kmoffett5,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. Let's sort this out.

It appears that the installed Nest Thermostat at home might still be associated with a different account. To give you full access to it, please follow these steps below:

  1. On your thermostat, go to Settings > Reset > Account Connection > Reset to confirm.
    1. This will disconnect it from the previous account and network connection.
  2. Once ready, reconnect it to the Wi-Fi network.
  3. Go back to Settings > Nest App > Scan the QR code or Get the Entry Key.
  4. Open the Nest app on your phone and proceed by adding it to your account.

Let me know if that works.

Regards,
Mark

Hey there,

I'm checking back in. Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you — I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Thanks,

Mark
