Adding transformer Next generation E

Hello all,

I have a heat only system with 2 wires R and W. I am connecting a nest next generation E stat. I need to add 24V and due to construction going back to 24V on zone panel is impossible so i am adding a 24V transformer. I have added on others before and connected the 2 transformer wires to C and RC (after removing jumper) but the E has no RC.  There is Y1, G, R, W1, C, and +OB. I will connect 1 wire from transformer to C, my question is where to connect 2nd wire from transformer?

Thanks !

Hey there,

Sorry for the trouble. I wanted to follow up and see if I could be of any help. You may need to install a Nest Learning Thermostat to your system, as you will have a slot for the RC wire on that device. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

Jake,

After doing some research it seems i can add a nest power connector with a 24V transformer and this eliminates the need for a C terminal on the stats and will use the existing 2 wires. Am I mistaken ?

Hey there,

Yes, if you use the Nest Power Connector, you will not need to connect a C wire to your system. I found an article with more details on the Nest Power Connector. Please let me know if you have any questions from here, as I would be happy to help out.

Best regards,

Jake
