I have a basic nest thermostat. Is there any kind of room sensor, even third-party, that I could by to monitor the temperature of a room in the Google Home App and not have it go through the thermostat? I’d like to just see the room sensor as its own device in the Google home app, and monitor it that way. Does anyone make a device for this? I’m not looking for a Google assistant voice way to monitor it, but see it in the Google home app. Thanks in advance for any guidance on this.

Hi Wstt,
Thanks for reaching out. You could look into the Nest Temperature Sensor. The Google Nest Temperature Sensor lets you choose where your thermostat measures the temperature in your home to help keep you comfortable. You could also click on this link to learn more about this.
Thanks,
Edward

It doesn’t appear the nest temperature sensor would work. I am confused with it and that’s why I am asking the question here. It appears the nest temperature sensor can only be used with specific nest thermostats, (and you can’t just view the temperature in the Google home app directly, but only through specific thermostats on the app). And it appears the nest temperature sensor cannot be used with the Google nest thermostat, which is what I have. Correct me if I’m wrong on this please. Thanks.

Hi Wstt,
Thanks for the response. You're correct. The Nest Temperature Sensor is only compatible with the Nest Learning Thermostat and the Nest Thermostat E. I understand that having a sensor that would work with the Google Nest Thermostat would be helpful. Our team is always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback.
Thanks,
Edward

Hey Wstt,
Hopefully you saw Edward's confirmation about the Temperature Sensor compatibility. As he mentioned, we'll pass that feedback along to our internal teams, but I wanted to follow up and see if there might be anything else you needed aside from that. If you have additional questions, let us know.
Thanks,
Jeff

unfortunately I got the answer which was it’s not possible with Google home, when it seems it would be very valuable to Google home users and could likely be easily done. Not sure why Google chooses to drop the ball on this one.

Hey Wstt,
Sorry you weren't able to get the answer you were hoping for, but I can pass your comments along to our internal teams as a feature request. Those requests help our teams decide the direction they want to take for future products and current product updates. Aside from passing that along for you, is there anything else I could help you with?
Thanks,
Jeff
