App showing my thermostat is offline

I noticed that about 4 hours ago my app shoed that the thermostat is offline. I know that my router is working because I have connectivity to my security cameras so I am assuming I have power. I'm monitoring the house remotely.

 Couple of questions.

1. Just because the app is showing offline, could the thermostat still be working fine and heating the house?

2. If it was that the batteries wee dead, would the app have notified me?

Thanks

I have the exact same problem, the thermostat shows offline even after rebooting the router.  All other wifi devices are working just fine.

Is your thermostat still working to heat your house even though it says it’s offline? I was told it might need batteries. Im not around to chwck it. Thanks

Yes, it can still be heating normally even if the app shows offline, since the thermostat usually runs on its last schedule; battery alerts don’t always push through when it’s disconnected, which is frustrating when you’re monitoring remotely or juggling things like download to earn online  on the side.

Exactly. My neighbor went in and switched the batteries for me but it still stayed offline and he said it felt way below the 70 degrees I had swt it at

Hi folks.

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you've noticed that your Nest Thermostat is showing as offline in the app, and you are concerned about whether it is still heating your home. I am happy to help you.

When a Nest Thermostat appears offline, it usually indicates a disconnection from your Wi-Fi network rather than a total loss of power. In most cases, your thermostat will continue to control your HVAC system based on the last schedule it received or the manual temperature set on the device itself, even without a Wi-Fi connection.

Regarding your question about battery notifications: the Google Home or Nest app will typically send a low-battery alert before the device shuts down completely. However, please keep in mind that if the device loses its Wi-Fi connection first, you may not receive real-time updates until it is back online.
To further assist you can you help me with the following information.

  • Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, and more) near the thermostat?
  • Are you trying to connect to the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network?
  • How far away is the thermostat from your Wi-Fi router?

Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Best regards,

Brian.

@ronleach

The 3rd-gen thermostat will keep working even when it shows as offline in the apps. The thermostat doesn't require the app to operate; it's just a way to control it remotely.

The 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat does not have replaceable batteries. It has only an internal battery that is not field-replaceable. Don't believe posts or videos claiming you can replace the battery, as no one makes the correct battery for the 3rd Gen thermostat. The batteries currently for sale are the wrong voltage, VA, and physical size for the 3rd Gen.

Thanks for your feedback.  I tried reconnecting to the wifi to no avail.  All other wifi devices are working fine.  What is the solution?
