Auto schedule deletion

Bridgemaster

After 4 years of Nest turning the heating on when we didn’t want it we were fed up and tried to delete the auto schedule.   Was this easy?  No.  Almost impossible.  Instead of a simple radio button to choose between our own schedule and the Nest imposed auto schedule we had to reset the whole system to factory settings. It took us all afternoon to then get everything back up and running and with learning turned off.

I’m very happy with apps and IT matters but Google Nest must be the worst system ever developed.
Still no heating boost unlike Hive

Still no holiday mode unlike Hive

Still have to turn hot water off separately when you go on holiday unlike Hive

Still have to remember to turn heating on before you come back from holiday and set a special time in the schedule for a couple of hours before you walk in the door unlike Hive.  And then remember to delete that one-off schedule

I’d be very happy to pay my GF to chuck Nest in the bin and get a Hive system as I have at my home.

Tell all your fiends never ever get a Nest

I find it baffling that these simple feature requests have been ignored for so long.

Is anyone even looking into this? Or has all development on Nest thermostat ceased?

Hello folks,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community Forum. I'd be happy to shed some light on the situation here.

We understand that this may have been an inconvenience to everyone due to a random temperature change or unexpected system activation, and we apologize for any frustration it has caused. We're committed to providing you with the best possible experience, so please share your feedback about Google Nest.

Also, to confirm, from what country are you posting? Have you tried checking the Home and Away Assist and Routines in the Google Home app to see if there's a thermostat action that triggers the system to turn on?

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I have set up a home routine for myself but for non technical users this isn't possible.

Is there a plan to match the hive features for boost and holiday mode?

If not I'm going to have to recommend hive to family and friends who are not technically minded.

Cheers,

Gav

Hey there,

@Bridgemaster, thanks for the added details, and I appreciate all the steps you have taken. To confirm, are you from North America or Europe? Did you invite your partner as a home member via the Google Home app?

We value our customers input. I'll bet other users would love to have this feature too. We're really working to bring more features to Nest Thermostats to make them work flawlessly, so thank you for your insight, @CarpeCervisiam.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark

I'm in the UK.  My GF less technical than I am so I get to try and fix the multitude of Nest problems and participate in the Nest Forum

I'm really sorry to hear about your inconvenience. In order to have the schedule functioning properly, you can set up a schedule according to your needs and turn off the Auto-Schedule feature from the app, so it may not interfere with each other.

Hi there, just checking in with you. Did you manage to check my colleague's last message?

I did read it and it was as unhelpful as most Nest replies.  Nobody at Google Nest responds helpfully to the actual problems. We did set up our own schedule but your dreadful auto-schedule over-rode it.  The only way to get rid of it was to restore factory settings.  Now we are stuck with radiant heating always turning itself back on.  Your colleague did not address that problem

If the issue persists and the Auto-Schedule is still active, you can try to deactivate it again, then go to the thermostat itself and check if it's active there as well. You can see that in Settings -> Nest Sense -> Auto-Schedule. After that, please try to go to Settings -> Reset -> Reset Schedule.

Once again you are not answering our question which was the problem of not being able to turn radiant heat  off. However I’m delighted to be able to tell you that my GF is getting rid of Nest and getting a Hive. Brilliant news.

I am really sorry you feel that way. Please let me know if me or my colleagues can do anything else for you.

Hi there, just checking in! Is there anything else we can help you with?

Thank you again for asking

To be honest I found your original question asking if ‘there was anything else you could do to help’ very frustrating because nobody at Google Nest has ever been any help at all.  If I do get a response with a suggested solution (rare) it is to the wrong problem.

About a year ago there were lots of us on the Nest Community begging Google to provide basic functions such as a boost to the central heating and a holiday mode like Hive has.  see the message from CarpeCervisiam of three weeks ago. Nobody at Google Nest was interested in doing anything to sort these problems out so, like my GF, others have given up with Nest and have got themselves a Hive.

Rest assured my colleagues see all the feedback provided but it's not up to us on what or when something gets implemented. I completely understand how you feel and more features are always great. If we had more information to share we'd be happy to, but we just don't know anything at this time.

Hi Mark

Ref my issue and other concerns on this thread.  we just want Nest to fix it and also add a heating boost and holiday mode option like Hive (as raised by someone else on this thread and me and others many times before.

My GF is now getting a quote for a Hive so she can get rid of Nest so the matter of it coming on early needs fixing urgently

Hi Mark

ref my previous threads where I complained about how complicated it was to get rid of the auto schedule.  We had to reset factory settings to delete the auto schedule that kept turning the heating on when we didn’t want it.  Since then we’ve had a problem with radiant heating (why doesn’t Nest call it something more relevant to what is does like ‘pre-heat’?).  The heating now comes on in the middle of the night to try and get the house warm for our scheduled on time of 06.00.  We turned off radiant heating on the thermostat but it turns itself back on whenever my GF goes out and puts the heating in to eco mode.  We then have to reset it.  Tried turning radiant heating off on the app but after a couple of seconds it turns itself back on!  We have set the maximum pre-heat time to 0 hours but that makes no difference. My GF calculates that she has wasted so much money on heating being on when she wants it off that she could have bought a Hive that doesn’t have these problems. How to fix this problem properly please?
