Baseplate Compatibility between Gen1 and Gen 3

Is the Nest Learning thermostat baseplate for Gen 1 and Gen 3 interchangeable?

If I have a Gen 1 installed, and upgrade to Gen 3, can I simply swap out the face? Or do I need to install & rewire the new Gen 3 baseplate?

No, they are not interchangeable and you will have to swap them out.
