Best ( can't be hard ) alternative for nest thermostats in Europe

Looking to replace my nest thermostat, pretty new under warranty, never worked and was abandoned by Google. Thye are not very interested in repairing or replacing faulty units..

What would be a good thermostat to consider in Europe for a gas combi boiler?

Sorry to hear your recent issue with Google Tech support. My recent experience with warranty for Nest thermostat was however very positive.

I wouldn't necessarily by looking to a Nest alternative as functionally they are one of the better ones and do have a number of support options.  If I were looking, I have however had reasonable reports from Hive customers.

It might however be a good time to reflect on the reliability of simple programmers and mechanical thermostats. Increased complexity has its down side. We all should consider just how much complexity do we need.

Thank you Neil , I’ll look into hive. Was also suggested ecobee  that is HomeKit compatible. I agree with your thoughts in my case I bought this for as pacific need that was the home /away function. It never worked and google never wanted to fix it.

i believe nest was a great product until google bought it and changed the function of the thermostat to an additional point of data collection for google.

Hey @disappointed_. Can you share your case id with me? I'd like to look over your case.

Hi Cristian

it’s been shared with over 10 google specialists by now. Google USA said a replacement must be made and they requested the European office to issue one. google Europe never replied to their messages. At some point a lot of personal info was collected and I was told a thermostat will be sent from the uk. But the case got dismissed. and it’s always ignored by the google Europe as now they claim this is not a faulty thermostat - google USA doesn’t agree with this . Seems the fact that the thermostat will not switch from home to away is a new smart feature in Europe . .  As the USA and Europe have different models google USA can’t send me one.

please don’t ask me for any troubleshooting as everything possible was done. I expect nothing from your support as most specialists don’t even know this product ( once I sent a few screenshots of some settings and readings and the “specialist” had no clue how to read them ).

Hey@disappointed_. No worries, I won't ask you for troubleshooting steps because I should be able to see them on your case. However, the community forum thinks you shared your phone number and it got censored. As a workaround, could you post a photo of your case id?

Hello again. Just checking in. Do you still need my help?

I haven't heard from you in a while so I'm going to lock this thread. If you still need my assistance, feel free to open a new one.

Hi @disappointed_ , I am sorry to hear about your experience. I would be happy to try and assist you with your thermostat. Could you give me some more details on what is going on with it?

Hi Alex

thank you for your message. The nest doesn’t switch from home to away or vice-versa based on the movement inside of the unit. Even if the sensor detects the movement the thermostat will never switch to away or home.

Multiple times the thermostat was reset to factory settings, installed with android phones, iOS phones, access was given to your collègues .. was never fixed and even if it’s still under warranty , nest uk and Romania refused to replace it. They asked me to wait as the thermostat is functional and this seems to be a feature.

i spent 50 hours with google best support all they cared was gathering any extra information they could from me ( addresses , friends addresses and numbers , emails etc )

i am not the only one to have this problem and it seems it’s a known software problem. We bought a thermostat that’s not offering all features advertised.
