Blows hot air then cool air.

I have my NEST set “eco-leaf” and the temp is 62-low and 85-high.  Live in Nevada and the temp is running up to 112 so far.  When the temperature reaches above 85 in the house, the NEST kicks in but runs hot first then blows cool.  I am trying to keep my energy bill low.   Are there any recommendations out there...or am I just stuck?  Senior Citizen here 😊.

Hey Cheq,

Just one final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.

The hot air at first is normal. It’s the air that has been in the ducts in your attic getting heated until the AC turns on and blows it out. Should only last a short period.

Thank you for your quick response.  I was just hoping there was something else I could do as I noticed that my summer bill is going up each day.  I monitor my bill online and it is freaking me out...but I do understand what you are saying.  Thank you, again.

Costs have gone up, record heat as well. Also depends on efficiency of unit, insulation of home and other things. If you have original builder grade, they tend out in minimum size which will run more to try and keep up.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. There are lots of ways to help improve energy savings and reduce your utility bills. You can check out this support article to improve your energy savings with your Nest Thermostat.

Also, the Nest thermostats can help you save energy and keep you comfortable by creating a temperature schedule for you. You can make adjustments to any schedule your Nest thermostat makes for you, or if you prefer, you can create your own from scratch.

I appreciate your help, @mclasita.

Best,

Jenelyn
