Brand new thermostat constantly reconnecting to Wi-Fi

My brand new nest thermostat that is wired to the wall and was installed by ADT keeps disconnecting and reconnecting to the Wi-Fi (which does not have any other issues). This causes my boyfriend to constantly get notifications on his computer while he is playing a game that a new device wants to connect to the router. We are ready to rip it off the wall. How can we fix this issue?

I'm sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused to both of you when your thermostat kept disconnecting from the Wi-Fi network. Let's see what's going on.

The Wi-Fi frequency may be incompatible with the type of thermostat you have. WiFi signal strength may be poor or may have high latency. A network firewall may block outbound connections, and power-related issues are some of the possible reasons why the connection is not being maintained. To isolate:

 

  • How far away is your thermostat from the router?
  • Did ADT also set up your thermostat in the app?
  • Were there any nearby wireless interference or devices that could cause it to drop a connection?
  • Are you getting any warnings or reports on the thermostat's screen?
  • How often if drops from your Wi-Fi network?
  • Please check your thermostat's power readouts in its technical information settings.
