Can I continue using the Nest App after September 29 2023?!

Do I have to migrate my nest account if I only use the nest app?  I’m so confused and have to figure this out.  I have 2 thermostats that I control through the Nest app.

@Christine34l

Nothing changed with Nest Aware or the Google Nest app on Sept. 29, 2023.

On that date, Google Nest discontinued the "Works with Nest" feature (which connected 3rd-party devices to Nest):

Thank you, so I don’t have to worry about migrating my account to google then since I use the regular Nest app?

@Christine34l

Yes.

I suspect that at some point in the future Google Nest will make us move our older cameras and doorbells to the Google Home app, but it seems they are just getting started on that:

Thank you! I was confused too. So I only have a Doorbell (I think 1st gen) and I don't have to migrate to Google is what I'm understanding. Right? I can continue to use Nest Aware

Zoe,

We currently have Nest cameras throughout our facility.  We are viewing those cameras through the Nest app via Apple TV on monitors set up throughout our facility for safety purposes.  It's not clear to us if on September 29th, the ability to use the Nest app on Apple TVs also goes away.  We have not migrated our Nest account over to a Google account yet.

Thank you.
Matt

Hello GJ31,

Checking in — we hope you've got the answer you're looking for. Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Thanks for the help, @MplsCustomer.

We use, or did use, Alexa to control. We did not have Google Home devices until Nest became a Google device. Alexa no longer controls our thermostat. We have migrated to Google and can control Nest through Google Home. We want to continue to use Alexa since we have Alexa devices throughout our home.

Hello Pwee,

I’m sorry for the confusion. If you only have one Nest device, which is the Nest Hello doorbell, you don’t need to migrate, and you can still use the Nest Aware subscription. But in the future, if you purchased additional cameras, it is best to migrate since you will save more on the 2nd Gen Nest Aware Plus, and the same thing if you purchased 2nd Gen Nest Cameras, as it is required to use the Google Home app.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Regards,
Edmond

I have a Nest Thermostat and Camera that I use for a second home. I use and depend on the Nest app to monitor the property.  I use the Nest app remotely a LOT. From this thread, I see that I’ll be able to continue to use the Nest app, correct?
My main question is: do I need to be present at this second home to migrate these devices to Google Home.
(I started the migration process but stopped since I’m not there and thought you may need to connect to the Wi-Fi at that location. )

Hi Cvmerkel,

Thanks for posting here in the Community. For the migration process, you don’t need to be at home. As long as you use a regular Gmail account that has not been linked to any Nest account, the migration process should be good. Once the migration process is complete, you can still continue to use the Nest app to access your Nest devices.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Best,
Edmond

Hello BuckeyeMatt26,

Thanks for posting here in the Community. For viewing the Nest Camera using an Apple TV it will continue to work as long as you don't migrate your Nest  Account to Google.  Here is a link to learn more about this How to install and use the Nest app for Apple TV .

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Best,
Edmond

Thanks Edmond.  Very helpful for myself and a number of other franchise owners.

The follow up....we've heard rumblings that in 2024, even with our current set up with our Nest Account, we will have to change to a different system / process to continue using our camera feeds through wordpress and internally inside our facilities (we use the Apple TV with the Nest app to show our video feeds internally).  Any insight you could share here too?  Thank you.

Yes you would have to migrate your account to google home.

i did it 3 days ago..My nest app erased all my thermostats.

Do I have to migrate my Nest account if I only use my Nest Thermostat and Nest wired Doorbell?  I deleted my Works with Nest from Alexia, as I was not using them.  Also, can I continue to use the Nest app after Sept 29, 2023?

@GJ31

Nothing is happening to the Google Nest app on Sept. 29, 2023 except that support for "Works with Nest" support is being discontinued.

You do not have to migrate from a Nest Account to a Google Account at this point. I don't know if that will change eventually as Google Nest starts to allow us to move our older cameras from the Google Nest app to the Google Home app (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Nest-Cam-Indoor-1st-gen-expanded-support-rolling-out-in-...).

(Google Nest has been trying to get customers to migrate since 2020; we migrated in 2020.)

The newer Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions are only available once you have migrated. Here's what you get with each subscription:

That's what I was confused about. I only have the Nest for the thermostat,  so I should be good, correct?

@Tblanton187

Yes, you should.

You should not be good.

I too only have a thermostat that I control with the Nest App and found the google nest website information confusing. Will the App stop asking me to migrate?

It would have made sense to clearly state in all these communications about "works with nest" ending that if we're using a nest product, or a nest app, it is not effected. Provide clear directions on how a consumer can determine whether or not they're effected by this change. It seemed to me you were saying that me nest thermostat and app will no longer work.
