Can I limit functionality to other Nest users?

I’m interested in installing a Nest learning thermostat. Currently just using a traditional programable thermostat.

Our house gets used by a lot of friends and family when we are not there and I would like to know if I can set temp or time limit settings which only I have access to. Password protected setting in other words.

I’m just concerned that due to the accessibility of these units that the natural propensity would be for people to turn up the temperature and forget to turn it back down. With current energy costs in the Uk that is just not an option at present.

Thanks

@FSC_Andreas , there is a very good software feature, built into the nest thermostat. You can lock the thermostat using a four digit pin, chosen by you. Now, if your system is in, say, cooling mode or heating mode, when you lock the thermostat, you will be given the chance to set the four, or more,  degree temperature range you would allow somebody to change it to. So let’s say you have it on cooling and you set it to 80°. When you decide to lock the thermostat using either the nest app or the display itself, when you put the pin in, it will give you the opportunity to to set the maximum higher or lower range you allow them to change the system to. So maybe 79 to 84°. Now once you do that, the system is locked and the Dial can only be used to go to 79 or up to 84.   This lock feature can be unlocked from your Nest app or by entering the four digit pin on the display when you choose unlock. I hope this information helps you and give you the answer you were looking for. If you have anymore questions, go ahead and reply, and I’ll be more than happy to answer them for you.

Thats very useful information, thanks!

Is there the function to set the duration once you have set the temperature range with the 4 digit pin. An example being where one can input a max number of hours the system can be run at 84 before returning to a lower default maximum.

In order to do something like that, you would have to use a schedule. The temperature setting of the schedule overrides the temperature set in the lock. And if what you were trying to do is to basically set the temperature, you want the system to be at not let anybody change it, the best way to do it is use a schedule, and simply lock the thermostat again they will be able to change it in a 4° swing but the starting point will be the schedule temperature.
