Can’t access settings. Screen says continue setup in app but app can’t connect

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear thar you're unable to access the settings on your Nest Thermostat because the screen says to continue setup in the app, but you're unable to connect to the app, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

 

  1. Ensure your Home app or mobile device is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network to prevent poor or unstable connectivity, as poor or unstable Wi-Fi can hinder the app's connection with the thermostat.
  2. Restarting your mobile device can resolve temporary connectivity issues. Turn off the device, wait a few seconds, then reconnect, and then try connecting to the Home app again.
  3. To connect your Nest Thermostat, ensure it is in setup mode by checking for prompts or indicators on the screen. If not, reset the thermostat by removing the batteries and putting them back.
  4. Ensure you have the latest version of the Home app installed on your mobile device and check the app store for available updates, if necessary.
  5. Restart your Nest Thermostat by removing it from the wall plate or turn off power to the HVAC system for a few minutes. After restarting, put the thermostat back on the wall plate or restore power to the system and try resuming the setup process in the app.
  6. Verify the Nest app's Wi-Fi connection access permissions by checking the app settings on your device.
  7. If the app isn't working, consider using another mobile device or the web-based setup option, if available, if the app isn't functioning properly.
