Can't add new Nest G4CVZ to Nest app where I have 3 other Nest thermostats?

Is there a fix to this? I saw an old blog that says you can only have the Nest model G4CVZ on the Google Home app. If that is the case, then I want to remove the new "home" that this new thermostat is running on the Nest app. How can I get it off my Nest app. I know it doesn't matter but it aggravates me every time I open the Nest app and know that my new Nest G4CVZ can't be add to It!!!!!

Hello jimmieleede,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community!

I understand your frustration with not being able to add the Nest Thermostat 2020 to the Nest app, especially when you already have three other Nest thermostats successfully connected.

I believe you already have the existing Nest Learning Thermostats in the Nest app. With this, you might have linked your Nest Thermostat 2020 to a new home structure, so it shows two home structures in the Nest app. If you're determined to remove the new "home" from the Nest app that your new thermostat is associated with, you can follow the steps here in the Share a home and devices in the Google Home app article.

Removing the home with your new thermostat would also unlink it to your account. I'd suggest setting up your new thermostat together with your Nest Learning Thermostats under one home structure.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Best,
Mark

@jimmieleede

The Nest Thermostat is only installed in the Google Home app and cannot be accessed from the Google Nest app. (The Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E get installed in the Google Nest app, but can also be accessed in the Google Home app.)

I don't know what you mean by "I want to remove the new 'home' that this new thermostat is running on the Nest app".

If you started using the Google Nest app prior to Aug. 19, 2019 and log onto the Google Nest app with a non-gmail account using the "Sign in with Nest" option, you CAN migrate your Nest Account to a Google Account, but you'd have to do so BEFORE adding any Google Nest devices (such as your thermostat) to your Google Home app, or you'll have to log at the steps described in the "Error message: Google Account is already linked with another Nest account" topic in this Help topic:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9297676?

That will eventually get all of your devices in the same Google Nest "home/structure", but you'll still have to use the Google Home app for your Nest Thermostat, and the Google Nest app for any 1st gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells you may have.

Google Nest has been stuck in this 2-app world for over 2 years for various reasons. We've been using 2 apps since buying a 2nd gen battery camera in Sept. 2021.

If you are already logging onto both apps with the same Google Account, and your situation is that your Nest Thermostat is in one Google Nest "home/structure" and your other devices are in another Google Nest "home/structure", I think it may be possible to move either your other devices or your thermostat to the other Google Nest "home/structure", but I don't know how that is done.

If you need assistance with this confusing situation, you can contact Support using the link and instructions in this post:

Thanks for your reply. I guess I'll have to live with having 2 apps - one for my Nest thermostat at one home and one for my Nest Learning thermostats at anther home.

What I meant "I want to remove the new 'home' that this new thermostat is running on the Nest app" is that I added the Nest thermostat on the Google Home app and then it shows up on the Nest app but with no functionality . . . just as a banner. I was trying to see if there are a fix to get rid of the banner.

@jimmieleede

If you have two physical homes, you probably have two Google Nest "homes/structures" in the Google Nest app and in the Google Home app.

The Google Nest "home/structure" that contains your Nest Thermostat G4CVZ would be empty (or with a "banner") in the Google Nest app (unless you had some 1st gen cameras, doorbells, or Nest Protects), because that thermostat can only be accessed in the Google Home app.

I don't know why Google still has 2 separate but overlapping apps. We have numerous cameras and doorbells installed in the Google Nest app, and while Google Nest is starting to let customers test out transferring them to the Google Home app, the Google Home app STILL lacks many Nest app functions (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/13038234#zippy=%2Cnest-app-only-features), so we'll probably be using the Google Nest app and the Google Home app for quite awhile.
