Can’t bring nest thermostat into Google

AndyPagdin90

Hi,

I have just installed a nest 3rd gen thermostat and I’m trying to get it to link with my Google home account, but it won’t connect. When I select works with Google and then nest, it asks me for a username and password but says it is incorrect, after selecting forgotten password I get a sign in with Google option and this all seems to be working fine but in the end just returns me to the log in screen for nest.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Hi @AndyPagdin90

The Nest Thermostat is a Nest product that needs to be set up with the Nest app instead of the Google Home app.
You create a account with the Nest app (you login with the same Google account as your Google Home account) and setup the device this way.

After the setup is done your Thermostat will appear automatically in the Google Home app.

For more information check THIS link.

Hi @RXShorty

Thanks for the reply, that’s what I have done but it isn’t appearing for some reason, I’m beginning to think I need to delete it all and start again.

Same problem here. It looks like it’s trying to sign in with the old style nest account (if you’ve only recently opened an account it will be a Google account). It just says it’s wrong password etc but it’s not giving us the option of ‘log in with google’.

OK This didn't work for me... But eventually it did. I have found a fix that works for me.

Yesterday I installed a Nest Learning Thermostat and hit this exact problem. Used my google id as the Nest sign in. No sign of it in Google Home. Loads of web searching, much of it dated referring to adding the product in Home all useless. I then found this thread.

First the address I had in Google Home was not a 100% match for the one I had entered in Nest App. I amended them both to be exactly the same.

Still no NEST thermostat in Home. Looked on the web for various refresh options tried them, also tried a couple of address changes in Nest App going back to 100% match with Home hoping that would force a resync, still no luck.

So I removed the Nest Learning Thermostat from the Nest App.

I added the thermostat again using the add button, there is nothing to scan so select from the list Thermostat then Nest Learning Thermostat (presuming that is your product). Get the code from the thermostat.

Amazing it was there in Google Home, make sure that Home has refreshed I think it does every time you open it.

So ensure Home and Nest are logged in using the same Google ID. Amend both HOME addresses and řoom in Home App and Nest App to be 100% identical. Remove and add the thermostat again in the Nest App. Hopefully this will work for you.

I post this in the hope it may help someone else.

Thanks @Chris31 ,

That’s worked perfectly, I didn’t realise it needed the address in Google home, I added it and then it came straight through.

problem solved!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Hi. No I sorted mine early on, I did post the outcome but can’t see it now. It was because I had two ‘homes’ set up in google somehow. It showed up in the other one.

Straight after sorting this I hit the "Family members in Google Home see thermostat offline but not me" issue. Thanks to https://www.reddit.com/r/Nest/comments/p5o2qt/family_members_in_google_home_see_thermostat/ it seems it only works in Home if the Nest App is installed on every family members device.
