Can’t control my Nest Thermostat from the app anymore

Hi, I used to have full access to my thermostat with the app, but that has changed and now I can no longer control the temperature from my phone. The app opens and I can see my Home on the app. But when I click the icon I can only choose between home and away. This is true for two homes that I have with nest thermostats. Neither can be controlled with the Nest app. Have tried restarting the thermostat and uninstalling and reinstalling the app to no avail. Wifi coverage is good. Any ideas?

Just to check, which model of thermostat do you have? You can check here:

How to tell which Nest thermostat you have - Google Nest Help

Can you see your thermostats in the app?

It’s a first generation thermostat. I can see the home on the app but can’t access the thermostat. I have photos but can’t seem to attach them. Model backplate 2.8

It actually looks like the 2nd generation thermostat body in the pictures on the link you provided.

Apologies for the delay, this is a community forum not Google support.

Important: In case you need to reset the thermostat, I would recommend you write down the wiring information so you can easily enter your thermostat's wiring if needed. On your thermostat, go to Settings > Equipment. You might want to do this for other settings, such as system heating type, and safety temperature as well.

Try these steps:

  1. On the thermostat itself, go to Settings > Reset > Account connection. If you don't see this option, you'll need to select All settings.
  2. Follow the setup steps: Add your Nest thermostat to the Nest app - Google Nest Help

Setup in your case using the Nest app. The QR code and setup key are in the settings on the thermostat itself and are not printed on the device.
