Compatibility Check

I'm trying to see if my home is compatible with a Nest Thermostat before I purchase one, and the checker directed me here. The white and brown wires to the left are labeled 011 and 012. Can anyone provide some guidance or expertise here?

Hey wdavis,

I appreciate all the information you have provided; it really helps.

Based on the manual for the Trane XR402 thermostat, the OT1 and OT2 terminals are connected to outdoor temperature sensors. The Nest thermostat does not need these wires as it gets sensor information, like outdoor weather conditions, over Wi-Fi. Install your Nest thermostat without these wires. Also, the blue wire connected to the B terminal is actually a common wire, which will be connected to the C terminal on the Nest thermostat.

Your system may be compatible with the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd gen. Before you begin, turn off the power to your system. Then connect the wires as follows:

  • Yellow: Y1
  • Green: G
  • Orange: OB
  • Red: RC
  • Black: * (star terminal)
  • Blue: C
  • Brown and white: not used

Since you have a dual-fuel system, you will need to have a trained professional to complete the set up of your thermostat. It’s important for a professional to assess the requirements for your specific dual-fuel configuration since choosing incorrect options for a dual-fuel system can result in damage to your system. Contact a local HVAC professional.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

Lance

Hello wdavis,

Thanks for posting in the Community. I’d be happy to help you with this.

To figure out if your HVAC system is compatible with Nest thermostats, I need a few pieces of information: what country are you located in? What kind of HVAC system do you have? What is the make and model of your HVAC system? Also, what is the model of the existing thermostat?

Looking forward to your response,

Lance

Awesome, thank you @Lance_L! The AC is a Lennox HP26 heat pump with C26 series coils. The furnace is a Payne Gas furnace model PG8MAA036070. And the thermostat is a Thane XR402
