  • Will this setup work on the nest thermostat, just have some concerns with the emergency heat. Also wondering why my wiring seems super thin compared to other pictures I have seen posted. IMG_20230512_163246539_HDR.jpg

Yes, it will work with the Google Nest Thermostat. You have a conventional system, so no emergency heat.

Try this

Blue - C to C

White - W/E to W

Red - RH to R (jumper to RC not needed)

Green - G to G

Yellow - Y to Y

When asked which wires do you have, select these

W/W1, Y/Y1, G/G1, R, and C

I tried installing they nest yesterday with issues. I didn't actually open this forum and I was reading your response from my email notifications. I only selected that I had W/Y/G/R/C. I am confused cause on the image you attached it shows other things checked off? Anyways when I tried setting up the system things went well but when I ran start up test I received message that says that the only thing that was connected was the C lead. Something else was getting power also I think it was R. I believe that the gauge of the wires is too small and they aren't being recognized. It says that if they are too small that this might happen. I'm not sure how to remedy this. Might have to return the item.

The picture was just an example showing the screen.

THe wire gauge looks to be just fine. Make sure that you have enough bare wire so it fully seats in the terminal.

I think I rendered my first base plate useless. Since the base part of the system wasn't detecting the wires I folded the ends over on themselves thinking it would have a better chance at making a connection but I still had no luck. And unfortunately when I was trying to remove the wire from the part where you insert it a part of the wire that I had folded over broke off inside, so now I can't insert the wire back into that spot. I am going to try fresh downstairs where our other thermostat is located and see if I am able to get that on setup. ( I purchased two nests). If I run into any issues I will take photos and post them here.

This is the message I got when trying to install downstairs, this was the same as when I tried before. Recommendations?

I trimmed back some of the coating on the wires and trimmed the ends and that seemed to do the trick. So all is up and running on the t-stat downstairs. I'll just need to purchase a new base somehow, so that I can get the other one up and running.

Happy to hear that! I appreciate the gesture. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will be locking this in 24 hours if we won't hear back from you again. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.
