I haven’t connected my nest thermostat yet because the Google home app says my set up isn’t compatible. I’m not happy and I don’t understand why. I have 5 wires - they are: W, Y, G, Rc and Rh with a jumper between Rc and Rh. I don’t understand why I’m “not compatible”. My current thermostat is a White-Rogers. I have a natural gas furnace that provides heat and central AC as one with the compressor unit outside. It seems pretty standard and I just don’t understand why Google home says no. Any ideas?

Your thermostat is compatible.
Try this
White - W to W
Red - RH to R
Green - G to G
Yellow - Y to Y
Select these wires in the app
W/W1, R, G/G1, and Y/Y1

Thank you! I realized when I answered the wire question in the app I selected both Rc and Rh but it’s the jumper that made both of those live while there is really only one R wire. I guess the app thought I was saying I had two red wires.

Hiya Ballerina617,
I'm glad to see that Patrick_Caezza was able to help you fix that wiring issue! In that case, did you have any other questions or concerns we can address?
Best regards,
Jeran

Yes actually I’m trying to do this now and in taking off the old thermostat I see two extra wires. They are wrapped around the main insulated wire group. One is light blue and one is light brown. So now I’m confused. I think blue is the C but what is brown??https://imgur.com/a/7XaFDyv

Hi Ballerina617,
Thanks for letting us know. If you have access to the control board of your HVAC system, you could check where the other end of those wires are connected to.
Thanks,
Edward

Hi thanks for checking in. I couldn’t get the panel off my furnace to see the wiring. But the thermostat is working great and I can use the app for anything I need to adjust. So I think I’m all good. In fact I’m going to help my daughter install her new Nest at her house! Thanks again!

Thanks for the response. If everything is working, then that means it's wired correctly. Please observe it for now and let us know if anything comes up.

Thanks Jake. Rgp165 sort of hijacked my thread about my Nest. I’m good with my Nest working and would appreciate the thread being locked because I am continuing to get notifications re rgp165. They can and should open their own thread if they’re having issues - in my opinion of course. Thanks for the help initially with my question.
