Confused if if temp sensor works with Nest Thermostat?

Well our first gen Nest finally died...battery will not hold a charge. Thought I would get in the modern area but not break the bank with the top of the line Nest. Watched a video stating that the Temperature Sensor works with all 3 current models in the line up...but I'm wondering if that is true?

I cannot get the Google Home app to add to the Temperature Sensor and it seems to want to push me to the Nest App which then tells me no Thermostat is setup in Nest, which I cannot add as the newer Nest Thermostat seems to be be Google Home only?

Can someone confirm if I was misinformed that these Temperature Sensors will work with the lowly base Nest Thermostat?

@carboncow ,

The Nest remote sensors communicate with thermostat display and not to the app.  A nest thermostat gives priority to a single sensor at a time. The Nest Remote Temperature sensors only work with Nest E Learning or the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation.

Kudos to CoolingWizard and EdmondB for clear, succinct answers to the question of how to specify which sensor to use when you have remote sensors configured to your Nest thermostat.  What you used to be able to control in the Nest app, you cannot control in the Google Home app and must instead go to the thermostat in questions and manually select the active device from the little (o) icon at the master thermostat.  Major pain!  It also precludes the setting of schedules as was easily done on the old Nest app.  Google Home still has a ways to go from a product functionality perspective.  I feel that we were forced to take a step backwards with the forced migration from the Nest app to Google Home.  Come on Google development team:  let's at least get back on par with the old Nest functionality!  If I've missed some other configuration parameter that would permit allocating different time slots to different temperature sensors, please correct me.  I do appreciate the original answers to this question!  🙂
