Connecting nest thermostat to existing humidifier with only four wires

Pabruzzo
Community Member

I recently installed a nest learning thermostat. My HVAC system has a humidifier attached, but there were only four wires in my previous old thermostat. I connected those to the nest as directed, and the heating and cooling work fine, but the humidifier does not. It seems there should have been a fifth wire to connect to the * connector, but there wasn’t, and the humidifier always worked before. Help?

Hello Pabruzzo,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to help.

Given the current wiring setup you have, We strongly suggest a professional installation. Incorrect setup, either due to incorrect wiring or wrong software settings, can cause weird HVAC behavior and even damage it. Please have a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.

Regards,

Mark
