Couldn't save

TomMyles
Community Member

I am trying to get my phone (Pixel 8A) connected to my Nest thermostat (Nest Thermostat Display 3.6).

I keep getting this Message: "Couldn't save, Retry or skip this step for now. Presence sensing won't work until it's saved".

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the Nest app and the Home app and still get this message.

Hi @TomMyles,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry to hear you've been experiencing inconveniences with your Nest thermostat, especially with that error message about presence sensing. Thanks for letting me know you've already tried some troubleshooting steps! Let me handle this for you.

Before we go further, could you provide some details about the case:

  • When did this issue begin?
  • Which model of Nest thermostat do you have? If you're unsure, you can find this information in our "How to tell which Nest thermostat you have" Help Center.
  • Have you tried using a different phone?

Once you have this information, I will be more than ready to assist you with this.

Best regards,

Debora

I don't have another phone to try.

I factory reset my phone, reinstalled the Nest App, granted permission, and still have the same problem.

Hi @TomMyles

Thank you for the information and your assistance. Since you mentioned you don't have another phone, to eliminate other potential problems with your mobile device, would you please try using a tablet if one is available?

  • Also, could you please tell me the Android version of your phone?

As a recommendation, you could also create a new home structure and try setting up your device there If you need the steps, here they are:

  • Open the Google Home app
  • Tap Settings and then Add.
  • Select Home.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Also here you have how to switch between homes:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Favorites and then the name of the current home.
  • Select a new home from the list.
    • Note: If the dropdown icon doesn’t appear when you select a new home, it means that you only have one home registered in the Home app.

Please let me know how these steps go! I'll be happy to continue assisting you.

Best regards,

Debora
