I see the topic of discontinuing support for Nest thermostat in October was locked when someone mentioned a class action! Hm strange, it’s so unacceptable that this is happening and then to offer a product at 50% off outside of the Google/Nest eco system and not the thermostat that will remain with support even! Totally abhorrent behaviour.

yes, it’s terrible and ridiculous. I have been trying to find out what this discount code is as I have three thermostats that are generation two and I have to replace them. I can’t figure out how to get the bloody discount code. Do you know by chance? Thank you if you do

I’d go bonkers if I had to replace three!! Here in the UK they sent an email with a link to a silly Tado thermostat, nothing like the Nest ones, I’m not sure where you are based but in the US I think they are getting discounts on later models of the Nest.

Well, they are losing a customer over this. Looking for another brand of thermostat right now. Why the hell would I ever buy a Nest again?

Tell me, when you were forced to upgrade your phone when became obsolete, or your personal computer when DOS or MSDOS were no longer supported. How about when Microsoft discontinued support for Windows95?
Over time there are technology advances that surpass older technology in such a way that it is no longer cost efficient nor financially advisable to do so. This is one of those times.
Here is thought. Would you support a monthly software subscription fee for the continued support of the Gen1 and Gen2. Say $10 per month per device? I’m not saying that Google will do this or this is anything they would think about but if you want to stop complaining about the fact that they’re obsoleting some old hardware, why don’t you offer that you guys would be willing to pay a subscription maintenance fee to keep your support going.

I am not sure this termonology is correct - [Support].
I don't think users are saying about support really, I think the problem is remote access. Users are not expecting Google to continue updating software, but when purchasing the thermostat, they did expect remote access.
When a phone becomes end of software updates, you can still use it to make calls
When a PC becomes end of software support, you can still use the PC over the internet.
The Nest Thermostat will work fine as a standard thermostat agreed, but they were sold with Internet remote access. This is the issue I am hearing.
